Assistant Clerk – 10 hours per week. This interesting and varied position supports two committees and the Clerk of the Ash Parish Council of 11 councillors.
The Assistant Clerk will work from home, and he/she will need to be effective working on their own initiative as well as being part of a team. He/she must have access to transport to enable attendance at the two, evening Parish Council committee meetings per month. There may be other occasional meetings as required. The successful applicant will assimilate information readily and be able to distil this into clear advice for the committees which are for Planning and the Ash Neighbourhood Development Plan. Applicants with experience of the local government sector are preferred but consideration will be given to individuals with appropriate skills and attitude, who learn quickly and can apply that knowledge with confidence.
- Preparing agenda and papers for the two committees, minuting the meetings and actioning the work arising in consultation with the Clerk
- Advising the two committees on procedures, legal requirements and current policies
- Carrying out general administration, responding to correspondence and telephone calls from Ash residents with specific reference to matters that need reporting to outside agencies
- Managing the Parish Council Allotments and web-site
IT competencies should include Microsoft Office. Good communication and written skills are essential, as is a pro-active approach. Interpersonal skills, diplomacy and flexibility in dealing with the public are very important. Salary range is SCP 18 – £9.58 to £10.68 per hour pending annual review.
